Located at the intersection of Zhuhai Fushan Industrial Park and Gao Lan Gang Highway, the Fushan Science Innovation Center emerges as a new landmark in Doumen, Zhuhai. The project draws inspiration from “Zhuang Ni Yu”, an intangible cultural heritage of China. This traditional art of catching mudfish—unique to Doumen—involves fishermen gliding across mudflats and using distinctive mudfish cages. The footprints left on the mud and their fishing methods inspired the massing strategy and spatial organization of the design, with the mudfish cage serving as the central concept for the office tower.
Architecturally, the site is anchored by the hotel and the office tower. The hotel, offering over 240 rooms, is strategically positioned to maximize riverside views and allow natural light to flow into the interiors. For the office tower, a diagonal grid structure replaces traditional vertical columns, providing both functional and aesthetic advantages. This innovative structure enhances the interior space while also serving as an extruded sun-shading element. Parks and public spaces interwoven throughout the site offer tranquil and elegant areas for relaxation. The green roof corners of the retail buildings at the north and south gently slope downward, softening public edges and promoting a seamless flow across the site.
Photoshop, AutoCAD, Illustrator, PowerPoint, V-Ray, Rhino, and Grasshopper were key tools used during this project. Following the Huizhou competition, more team members joined SGA, making this a fantastic collaborative experience. I contributed to the animation using Lumion and After Effects and also worked on in-house renders. Below is a link to my production—enjoy!
